Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning Benefits:
What to Expect
Dermaplaning, also known as a “scalpel facial,” is a safe, painless, and effective method of rejuvenating the skin. During the procedure, we’ll remove dead skin cells, peach fuzz, and fine hairs, exposing the glow of healthy, new cells underneath. You may find that cosmetics are applied more smoothly and that your skin has a supple and youthful texture.
Before your dermaplaning treatment, your aesthetician may advise you to avoid sun exposure for several days before the treatment to reduce skin sensitivity. You should also discontinue at-home exfoliation treatments or skincare serums that have retinoids, micro-beads, or alpha hydroxy acid exfoliants for a few days before the treatment. If you get facial waxing, it’s important to schedule your appointment at least a week before your dermaplaning procedure to avoid irritating the skin.
To begin the treatment, your face will be cleansed and dried before holding the skin taut. Using quick strokes at a 45-degree angle, the scalpel will gently remove the top layer of dead skin cells. Treatment will begin on one side of the face, either the forehead or jaw, before moving on to the other side. You’ll feel the sensation of the blade crossing your skin, which is similar to the way shaving with a razor feels. But you won’t feel any discomfort, and your skin will never be pierced. During your appointment, you’ll be reclined comfortably. Many patients find this to be a deeply relaxing experience. Finally, we will apply a serum or moisturizer to complete the treatment.
Dermaplaning is a safe, FDA-approved, non-invasive procedure that requires no downtime. You can return to your normal activities immediately after the treatment. Patients typically see immediate results after a dermaplaning treatment, with skin appearing brighter and more radiant.
