A facelift is performed to bring back the youthfulness in your face and neck by smoothing wrinkles and removing excess skin. It erases many of the visible signs of aging but, unfortunately, won’t prevent the aging process from continuing. At Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona, we have a variety of techniques available to provide you with outstanding results, such as mini-facelift and traditional facelift/neck lift. Let us help you feel comfortable and confident in your skin again.
What are the pros and cons to getting a facelift?
When deciding to get any plastic surgery done, it is best to know the pros and cons to any procedure. This is especially true when considering a facelift. The surgeons at Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona will discuss the procedure in detail and answer any questions you may have before the surgery. You will need to sign a consent form so that you understand the possible outcomes, pre- and post-surgery.
The Pros:
- Your face and neck will be more firm, toned, and lifted.
- No more “saggy” skin.
- Skin will have a healthy and youthful glow.
- Restored confidence.
The Cons: (although rare, these will depend on the patient)
- Infection
- Poor wound healing and skin loss.
- Unfavorable scarring.
- Unsatisfactory results could include: asymmetry, unacceptable visible deformities at the ends of the incisions (additional surgery might be necessary to improve results).
Complications can happen with all surgeries, but the surgeons at Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona have the skill and expertise to give you the results you deserve. They will be with you from beginning to end assuring that you are satisfied and are healing properly following surgery.
Cost
The total cost of a facelift procedure will be the combination of the surgeon’s fee, the facility fee for the surgery center, and the anesthesia fee. Facelift procedures are cosmetic in nature, so health insurance companies do not cover the cost, which means the patient is responsible for the entire amount.
To help with the cost of surgery, Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona participate with Care Credit, a financing company that can provide loans to help cover the cost of the procedure. Loans that are interest-free for up to twelve months are available through Care Credit for qualifying applicants.
Preparation, Procedure, and Recovery
There are certain steps to take when preparing for facelift surgery. You might have to change your prescriptions, definitely will need to quit smoking and avoid certain medications such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements, as these can pose higher risks of increased bleeding and bruising during and after surgery.
The facelift procedure will be done on an outpatient basis at Northern Arizona SurgiCenter, which is our fully-licensed, Medicare-certified, and AAAHC-accredited ambulatory surgery center located in the lower level of our building in Flagstaff. During the initial surgery, facelifts are often combined with additional procedures such as blepharoplasty, or eyelid tightening, facial fat injections, or chemical peels for facial skin rejuvenation.
To keep you comfortable during the surgery, you will receive either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The facelift procedure involves incisions strategically placed by the surgeon so that they are concealed and not noticeable after recovery from surgery. Recovering from surgery, you will experience swelling and bruising, which will gradually subside during the weeks following surgery, revealing the final results of your procedure. Your facelift should result in a well-rested and more youthful appearance.
