Andrzej Burkat, M.D.

Andrzej Józef Burkat, M.D., is an accomplished, award-winning, board-eligible plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona. Dr. Burkat’s expertise spans cosmetic surgery, hand surgery, nerve repair, microsurgery, and complex reconstructive procedures. His extensive training and dedication to patient care are reflected in his significant contributions to the field throughout his career.

Dr. Burkat earned his bachelor’s of science and medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, where he distinguished himself through his academic excellence and dedication to community service. He completed a six-year Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency at Virginia Tech Carilion before joining Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona in the summer of 2024.

Dr. Burkat has actively participated in numerous professional conferences, presenting his research on digital nerve repair and the use of innovative techniques in hand reconstruction. His scholarly work includes co-authoring a chapter on eyelid surgery complications in the Duke Manual of Oculoplastic Surgery and publishing articles on advanced reconstructive methods.

Beyond his clinical and academic pursuits, Dr. Burkat is deeply committed to giving back to the community. As a medical student, he co-founded a student health clinic for underserved populations and has since been actively involved in various volunteer initiatives to improve healthcare access and patient outcomes. His dedication to community service and health is a testament to his belief in the power of collective action and his commitment to positively impacting the lives of those around him.

Dr. Burkat and his wife, Dr. Hannah Varnell, are enthusiastic about living in Flagstaff and its welcoming community. They appreciate the region’s natural beauty and outdoor opportunities and look forward to becoming integral parts of the local community.
