Dr. Burkat, award-winning plastic and reconstructive surgeon,will begin seeing patients in Flagstaff this August
Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona is proud to announce that Andrzej Józef Burkat, M.D., an award-winning, board-eligible plastic and reconstructive surgeon, will begin seeing patients in Flagstaff, Arizona, starting in August 2024. Burkat brings extensive expertise in cosmetic surgery, hand surgery, nerve repair, microsurgery, and complex reconstructive procedures to the Flagstaff community.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Burkat join our team and bring his expertise to the Northern Arizona community,” said Stephen Lex, M.D., plastic surgeon and co-founder of Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona. “His commitment to patient care and innovative approach to plastic and reconstructive surgery will be a tremendous asset to our patients.”
Burkat has distinguished himself through academic excellence and a profound dedication to patient care. He earned his bachelor of science and medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine before completing a six-year plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at Virginia Tech Carilion.
Burkat has presented his research at numerous professional conferences, focusing on digital nerve repair and innovative techniques in hand reconstruction. His academic contributions include co-authoring a chapter on eyelid surgery complications in the Duke Manual of Oculoplastic Surgery and publishing articles on advanced reconstructive methods.
“Plastic and reconstructive surgery allows me to combine my passion for art with medicine to improve patient’s quality of life,” Burkat said. “It is incredibly rewarding to help restore function and confidence in my patients.”
His dedication to community service is evident in his past initiatives. As a medical student, he co-founded a student health clinic for underserved populations and has continued participating in various volunteer efforts to improve healthcare access and outcomes. His community-focused mindset and belief in the power of collective action align with the values of the Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona practice.
Burkat and his wife, Dr. Hannah Varnell, are excited about their move to Flagstaff. They are eager to explore the region’s natural beauty and outdoor activities and look forward to becoming active community members.
