Otoplasty is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of patients who have disproportionately prominent, uneven or misshapen ears. The surgery involves the removal or reconstruction of the ear’s cartilage and skin through an incision at the back of the ear, restoring the fold so that the ear lies flatter against the head.
Otoplasty can be performed on children once they’ve attained the age of five or six although it can be done earlier in cases of severe disfigurement to avoid emotional distress. Otoplasty surgeries are also common among adults who wish to enhance their overall appearance. Otoplasties can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the age and needs of the patient.
Otoplasty surgeries are performed at Northern Arizona SurgiCenter, our privately owned, fully licensed, certified, and AAAHC-accredited ambulatory surgery center located in the lower level of the Plastic Surgeons of Northern Arizona building in Flagstaff.
